Police chase leads to man shooting himself in Greene County

GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – Three police agencies are investigating a shooting after a police chase in Greene County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, Paragould Police got into a chase with a burglary suspect Thursday afternoon. During the chase, the suspect threw a weapon out of the car.

The chase eventually entered the county, where the Greene County Sheriff's Department responded to a relative's home on the Big Slough Levee near the state line that police believed the suspect was heading to.

When deputies arrived they found the suspect standing in a field with a .12 gauge shotgun. The deputies tried to get the suspect to drop the gun, when the suspect shot himself under the left arm one time.

The suspect was airlifted to The Med in Memphis. His condition is unknown at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say the suspect broke into a relative's home and had stolen some firearms.

Paragould Police, the Greene County Sheriff's Department, and Arkansas State Police all assisted in this case.
