Highway Projects Picking Up Across the State

APRIL 13, 2004 - Posted at 7:34 a.m. CDT

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - With the arrival of spring, construction crews are out in force on Arkansas highways.

Interstate projects in Little Rock, North Little Rock and West Memphis will slow traffic for commuters, vacationers and truck drivers.  But the end is nearing for several work zones.  In Conway, work to rebuild the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 should be complete this summer.  Releif is also coming in parts of the state where major road work was planned as part of the nearly $1 billion program to rebuild Arkansas' interstate highways.

The five-year program is nearing the end of its fourth year.

So far, 36 of fifty projects have been finished, including work on 54 miles of Interstate 30, 163 miles on I-40, 33 miles on Interstate 55 and seven miles on Interstate 540.
