2 judges compete for Arkansas Supreme Court seat

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The only statewide election on the Arkansas ballot for 2012 is between two appeals court judges running for a seat on the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Judge Raymond Abramson of Holly Grove faces Judge Jo Hart of Mountain View in the May 22 election. Early voting begins Monday.

The candidates are running for Associate Justice Jim Gunter's seat on the seven-member court. Gunter was elected to the state's highest court in 2004 and announced last year that he would not seek re-election.

Gov. Mike Beebe appointed Abramson to the Arkansas Court of Appeals in 2010 while Hart was elected to the same court in 1998.

Abramson announced his campaign for the spot on the Supreme Court last May. Hart announced her candidacy in December.
