Event provides taste of Hispanic culture

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The heat this weekend stopped few from taking in a different culture at the Hispanic Celebration this weekend.

Hispanic Community Services, Inc., in Jonesboro hosted a Cinco de Mayo celebration at Craighead Forest Park on Saturday.

Neighbors enjoyed games and music, and they also sampled authentic Mexican food.

Gina Gomez, the Hispanic Center's executive director, says she hoped the event would provide more cultural awareness for the community.

"It brings everybody together," Gomez said. "It brings out all the children from Hispanic heritage, different cultures, and that's it."

This is the tenth year for the event. All the proceeds benefit the Hispanic Center and scholarships for Hispanic students at Arkansas State University.
