Newly formed NAACP chapter elects executive board

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) recently reorganized its chapter in Jonesboro, and, on Saturday, members elected their new executive board.

Members crowded into the Jonesboro Public Library's Round Room to choose their organizational leaders. The new board was sworn in, with members also deciding when to hold their regular meetings.

Perry Jackson, the newly elected president, says the group will hopefully provide better representation for minorities in the community.

"As long as there are people of different races, ethnicities, (then) there's always going to be a need for it," Jackson said about the NAACP, "because fairness needs to be brought into the picture, always."

Jackson also says he is incredibly humbled the local chapter chose him as the group's new president, and he hopes to expand the group's presence within the community.
