JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The National Association for theAdvancement of Colored People (NAACP) recently reorganized its chapter inJonesboro, and, on Saturday, members elected their new executive board.
Members crowded into the Jonesboro Public Library's RoundRoom to choose their organizational leaders. The new board was sworn in, withmembers also deciding when to hold their regular meetings.
Perry Jackson, the newly elected president, says the groupwill hopefully provide better representation for minorities in the community.
"As long as there are people of different races, ethnicities,(then) there's always going to be a need for it," Jackson said about the NAACP,"because fairness needs to be brought into the picture, always."
Jackson also says he is incredibly humbled the local chapterchose him as the group's new president, and he hopes to expand the group'spresence within the community.
