NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – A celebration enticed crowds to the Arkansas State University campus in Newport this weekend, as the staff invited neighbors to enjoy 10 years of growth and progress.
ASU-Newport commemorated its first decade as a stand-alone facility Saturday by opening its campus to everyone.
People could tour the different facilities and see demonstrations from some of the newer programs, like renewable energy technology. They could also have a bit of fun by hopping on seven different carnival rides or bouncing around some inflatable attractions.
Dr. Larry Williams, the ASU-Newport chancellor, says the campus will flourish even more during the next 10 years.
"Hopefully we're going to enjoy more growth the next 10 years in enrollment and programs that we're able to provide for our students," Williams said. "Buildings, we've been blessed. We're facility-wise where we need to be. We just need to concentrate on growing additional enrollment and students through our programs."
In addition to learn about the school's various programs, neighbors could also walk away with some rewards. The school gave away three door prizes, including a 2011 Chevy Malibu.
