JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Don Riggs Memorial Gym at the Jonesboro High School held the 15th Annual Open Martial Arts Championship Saturday.
Competitors from six different states converged on the event. Multiple age groups of different martial arts divisions were at the championship.
The Joey Perry Martial Arts Academy put on the competition. Perry said the lessons children learn through martial arts are invaluable.
"Parents just come up and thank us for the confidence we're giving the kids and the good energy," Perry said. "You can see everybody is happy, being respectful. You get 'yes ma'am, no ma'am' and manners and that's just what everyone is teaching the children."
Perry said the event has grown each year it's taken place. This year, over 300 competitors took part in the competition.
