Region 8 Lady Eagles earn AMC Softball All-Conference honors

St. Louis, Mo. (AMC) - The American Midwest Conference has announced the members of its 2012 AMC Softball All-Conference team. The honors were announced after the conclusion of the AMC Tournament championship series today in Walnut Ridge, Ark.

This year there was a tie for AMC Pitcher and Player of the Year honors. Co-Player of the Year accolades go to Jamie Tanno of Park University and Felicia Woodard of Williams Baptist College. This year's Co-Pitcher of the Year recipients are Karisa Hendrix of Williams Baptist and Mackenzie Bowden of William Woods University.

Woodard, a junior from Corning, Ark., was the Eagles lead-off all season and hit .451 through the regular season with 44 runs scored. The speedster also had 10 doubles and two triples while swiping 17 stolen bases. In her post as a centerfielder Felicia finished the regular season with a .927 fielding average.

Jamie Tanno takes home two big honors this year as the Co-Player of the Year and she is also this year's AMC Newcomer of the Year. The junior third baseman grabbed the 2012 awards thanks in part to a .452 batting average with 44 RBIs. Tanno also pounded 20 doubles and 11 homeruns in her first year with the Pirates. In 115 at-bats Jamie had just five strikeouts and managed to post a .549 on-base percentage.

Karisa Hendrix of Williams Baptist College has been honored as the 2012 AMC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year. Hendrix, a junior from Cherokee Village, Ark., posted an 25-5 record with one save for the Eagles. Hendrix fanned 225 batters in almost 180 innings during the 2012 regular season. Karisa went 9-0 on the mound during the AMC regular season and had 83 strikeouts in conference play.

Mackenzie Bowden earns Co-Pitcher of the Year honors after leading the William Woods Owls to a second place finish in the AMC race. The sophomore from Hartsburg, Mo. posted an 11-5 record with three saves on the mound while throwing threw injury all season. In just over 110 innings pitched, Bowden had 160 strikeouts, enough to lead the AMC in per inning average.

The 2012 AMC Softball Freshman of the Year is Shelby Anderson of Williams Baptist College. Anderson, a pitcher from Mountain Home, Ark., helped the Eagles to the regular season title by earning six conference victories on the mound during her rookie season. Shelby went 16-3 for the season and also helped her team out at the plate, hitting .346 with 37 hits.

For the third consecutive year, Eric Newell of Williams Baptist College has been selected as the AMC Softball Coach of the Year. Now in his sixth season at the helm of the Eagles' program, Newell led Williams Baptist to their first sole AMC regular-season title after sharing the title for the past two seasons. The Eagles were 15-1 during AMC play in 2012, and were 43-8 during the regular season.
