ASU Poll Shows Arkansans Think Lake View Education Ruling Wrong

APRIL 28, 2004 - Posted at 7:24 a.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - A poll from Arkansas State University shows that 39 percent of Arkansans disagree with a ruling that the old method of public school funding was unconstitutional.  The poll released yesterday found that just over a quarter of Arkansans agree with the Lake View ruling.  The decision from the Arkansas Supreme Court said Arkansas' school-funding system was inadequate, unfair and unconstitutional.

Results also show that 51.1 percent of Arkansans either disagree or strongly disagree with the Legislature's plan to consolidate school districts with fewer than 350 students.

ASU's Center for Social Research polled 418 Arkansans.  The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
