LITTLE ROCK, AR - Seven teams of Federal Emergency Management Administration surveyors began their assessment of damage from flooding in 16 Arkansas counties today.
Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Jennifer Gordon said some teams were slowed by still-flooded rural roads connecting the northern Arkansas counties.
Five teams are checking for infrastructure damage in the counties and two teams recording damage to individual homes. The crews are expected to work through Saturday.
Early next week, the teams will put together county reports and an overall report for Governor Mike Huckabee. Huckabee will then decide whether to ask for federal disaster assistance.
Gordon said the state is holding off on providing money to flooding victims until officials know if federal funding is approved.
