JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The man accused of shooting and killing another man in north Jonesboro in May plead guilty Monday. 

According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, Edward Breedlove, Jr. pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. 

Jonesboro Police say Breedlove is suspected of shooting and killing 37-year-old Oujuan Thomas to death in a vacant lot at 305 North Bridge St. on May 11.

Family members believe Thomas died trying to protect them from Breedlove. Jonesboro Police have not released a motive in the shooting.

Breedlove turned himself into police two days after the shooting.
