Newspaper finds hundreds of unfiled Ark. warrants

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) - An eastern Arkansas sheriff admits his office does not enter into state or national crime databases the felony warrants for wanted fugitives.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports ( ) that it found more than 400 fugitives who were stopped for traffic violations - but released because the Phillips County Sheriff's Office failed to enter the warrants in the databases.
Sheriff Ronnie White told the newspaper that his office can't afford a computer terminal for the database or the employees to staff it - but said he'll work to develop his own system.
Among those the newspaper found to be wanted were now-admitted drug kingpin Sedrick Trice who was arrested in October during a federal sting. Trice was stopped for traffic violations prior to October - but released despite a 2008 arrest warrant.
