Road Construction Moves Ahead

According to the Arkansas State Highway Department, road work between Hoxie and Bono will soon be coming to an end.  Currently there are four different construction sites between Hoxie and Jonesboro.  Two of the projects will be completed by the end of the year.  The most notable project, the 63 B interchange, is scheduled to be complete by the first half of next year.  One other project near Hoxie is just beginning, scheduled to be completed in the next two years.

District engineer Joe Barnett says he is sure many people traveling into Jonesboro will be happy to see the end results.  He says he knows people traveling these roads daily are ready for their completion.  Sometimes traffic can back up more than half a mile due to single lanes putting the squeeze to roadways.

One school affected says they are ready for changes.  Eddie Mitchell is a teacher and school bus driver for Westside.  He says he often times sees a huge back-up along the roadways.  He says the roads are a driving hazard but it seems people have adjusted…noting the relatively few accidents he has seen and heard of.
