A million dollars isn’t much to most airports across the country.  But one local Region 8 airport is excited about a $1 million federal aid package headed there way.  Kirk Field inParagould will use the money to plan for the future.

Airport officials say the money will be used to ensure the runway is not blocked by economic expansion by buying land across from the field’s runway.  They also plan to build a parallel taxiway which will be used to keep planes off the runway as much as possible.

The biggest portion of money could eventually go to creating a Master Plan.  Officials say a Master Plan is used to plan the next few decades of an airports growth.  The current Master Plan has been in use for about 40 years.

City Councilman Darrell Taylor says Paragould’s airport is key to economic growth.  Saying it is one of the first places big business officials see when coming into an area.

Other local cities receiving money are West Memphis , Manilla, and Piggott.
