Missouri lawmakers approve review of state rules

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri lawmakers have given final approval to legislation that requires state agencies to review their rules every five years and eliminate those determined to be unnecessary.

State regulations would need to be reviewed on a rotating schedule starting in 2015. The review would include an analysis of whether a rule overlaps with any others, whether there is a less restrictive alternative and whether the rule continues to be necessary.

The legislation was given final approval Thursday, and now goes to Gov. Jay Nixon.

Sponsoring Sen. Bob Dixon, a Republican from Springfield, says the changes will make the state more friendly to businesses.

Administrative rules is SB469 and HB1135.
