TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - City board members in Texarkana are at odds over a proposal to refinance a bond issue in order to pay for street improvements.
Directors of the city's six wards are at odds over allocation of the estimated $10 million the bonds would raise - if approved by voters in a June 26 special election.
The Texarkana Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/LjCrHx ) that director Laney Harris wants his ward to receive one-sixth of the money. The amount would be divided either evenly among all six wards or in a way approved later for the other five wards.
Director Mike Jones says any list developed now would limit what could be done in the future.
Extending the current tax on the bond would be about $50 per year on property valued at $100,000.
