Police unsure if shooting, gun-related incidents connected

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - Newport police say a man was shot in the city during the wee hours of Friday morning.

According to police, Lawrence Stubblefield, 45, of Newport, arrived at the Harris Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right side. He was treated at the hospital and then taken to a Little Rock hospital via helicopter.
An investigation revealed that Stubblefield was shot in Hout Circle area of Newport. 
Officers say they responded to that area several times on May 24 in reference to shots fired and people brandishing handguns. Police say in a separate incident, Eddie White,24, was arrested after two victims reported he had pointed a gun at them and pistol-whipped one of them. White is currently incarcerated in the Jackson County Detention Center pending the filing of criminal charges against him. Police are unsure if Stubblefield's wound is connected to these incidents.
Officers are continuing to investigate Stubblefield's shooting, and no arrests have been made in connection. 
Stubblefield's injuries are not life threatening.
