MAY 12, 2004 - Posted at 5:09 p.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Nolan Richardson's secretary at the University of Arkansas testified today that she heard the coach say several times that the university could take his job if it didn't think he was performing.

Terry Mercer said a week before Richardson's 2002 firing the coach was joking with the Bud Walton Arena manager about Arkansas buying out his contract.

Mercer said that Richardson never said he wanted to quit and said that the coach made the statement to several people over the years and no one ever thought he was serious.  Mercer has worked for the university for 26 years.

Judge Wilson said after a break that he planned to meet with lawyers because, he's "got to move this trial faster."  He said he would set time limits on witnesses.
