Federal Funding Secured for Marion Industrial Site

MAY 13, 2004 - Posted at 10:59 a.m. CDT

WASHINGTON, DC - The city of Marion will receive $1.5 million in federal funds to help pave the way for a new auto parts plant.

Japanese automaker Hino Motors, a subsidiary of Toyota, announced plans last week to build a new parts plant in Marion.  The company has not yet revealed any specifics regarding size of the facility or how many people it might employ.

The funding is being awarded as a federal grant from the Economic Development Administration and will allow the Crittenden County city to make necessary infrastructure upgrades and improvements to a 160-acre lot which is designated as the future site of the new plant.

First District Congressman Marion Berry joined with U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln this morning in making the announcement.  All three worked to secure funding for the project.
