JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Two men accused of ramming a Monette Police car and running from police appeared in court Thursday afternoon.
According to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department, Joseph Gonzales is charged with aggravated assault, simultaneous possession of a firearm and drugs, possession with purpose of delivery, and possession of controlled substance.
Zachary Cruz is charged with fleeing, felon in possession of firearm, simultaneous possession of a firearm and drug, possession with purpose of delivery, and possession of controlled substance.
A judge set their bond at $250,000.
On the night of May 22, Monette Police Officer Brandon Womack pulled over a car on Highway 18. During the traffic stop a white Ford F-150 rear-ended Womack's Cruiser.
The driver of the first car took off, and after a short chase Zachary Cruz jumped out of the car and tried to run away on foot. Cruz was caught and arrested. He was already wanted on a parole violation out of Texas.
Gonzales, the driver of the truck that rammed the police car, also fled and was later caught on Highway 18 near Jonesboro.
Police later found $28,000 worth of cash, two semi-automatic handguns, and a large amount of marijuana in a hotel room.
The driver of the passenger car, Jumar Musgrave of Blytheville was cited for fleeing and released.
Gonzales and Cruz are set to appear again in court on July 27.
