LITTLE ROCK, AR - Eight teams have been tentatively approved to conduct an exhaustive assessment of Arkansas schools.
The Joint Committee on Educational Facilities selected five firms from the Little Rock area, two from Memphis and one from Delaware. Each company would be responsible for assessments in one of eight regions of the state.
The task force that will manage the assessments told the committee that the cost of the job could drop to $5.4 million, $1 million less than budgeted.
Also today, the joint committee agreed the assessments will include Division of Youth Services education facilities, the state schools for the blind and deaf and the Arkansas School for Math, Science and the Arts.
The panel did not include educational facilities with the state prison system.
