Man pleads guilty to shooting cousin over a joke

JONESBORO (KAIT) – Theman accused of shooting his cousin over a joke about kids, pleaded guilty in courtMonday.

According to theCraighead County Prosecutor's Office, Dominic Roston pleaded guilty to batteryin the first degree, and possession of drugs and a firearm. He was sentenced to5 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Jonesboro Police say DominicRoston shot his cousin Louis Gamble twice after the two men were joking witheach other that eventually led to an argument.

The shooting happened around 2a.m.on June 7, at 201State Street, Apartment 8.

Police found Gamble lying in the floor with gunshotwounds to his stomach and leg. Gamble was later transported to the Med inMemphis. Police believe alcohol played a part in the shooting.

Witnesses told police it was Gamble's cousin, Rostonthat shot him. Police say Roston fled the scene in a car with his girlfrienddriving. Police later pulled the two over and recovered a handgun believed tohave been used in the shooting.

Police say they also found marijuana at Roston's home.
