One-Half of TV's 'Odd Couple' Dies

MAY 18, 2004 - Posted at 10:40 a.m. CDT

NEW YORK, NY - He was most noted for playing the fastidious Felix Unger on the TV version of "The Odd Couple."

Actor Tony Randall has died.  He was 84.  His publicist says Randall died in his sleep last night at a New York hospital of complications from a long illness.

Randall started his career in radio in the 1940s and was linked with all three major TV networks.  He won an Emmy in 1975 for his role as Felix.

Over the years, Randall was also a popular guest on a number of variety and talk shows.

He appeared in Rock Hudson-Doris Day comedies like "Pillow Talk" and "Lover Come Back" and returned last year for "Down With Love," which was inspired by those earlier films.  In many of his films, he was known for playing lovably prissy characters.
