BLACK ROCK, AR (KAIT) – Drivers have likely noticed a lot of construction recently beside the Black River bridge at Black Rock. Walter McMillan, the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department's district
Some local drivers have feared that a bridge collapse like the one in Washington State this week could happen closer to home. People have been particularly fearful of the aging Black River Bridge that connects Black Rock and Portia on U.S. 63 in Lawrence County.
Thousands of bridges around the U.S. may be one freak accident or mistake away from collapse, even if the spans are deemed structurally sound.

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – Almost 70 people walked or ran this weekend to benefit those overcoming addiction.
People gathered Saturday at the Paragould Community Center for the Fourth Annual Road to Renewal 5K. The race benefits the Agape House, which is a drug and rehabilitation program in Greene County.
Curtis Hitt helped organize the race, and he says he's grateful the community has shown the cause so much support.
"We are blessed with a great contigency of civic-minded people in Greene County and not just in Greene County but all over Northeast Arkansas," Hitt said. "We had people from Jonesboro come out and just recognizing the fact that they want to have a hand in making this ministry proliferates some success in lives of individual people."
The race also raises money to expand the Agape House's program to more women across the area.
