Alligator found in northwestern Arkansas

GRAVETTE, Ark. (AP) - Authorities have solved the mystery of what kind of animal was seen strolling along a road near Gravette.
Brian McKinzie of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says a homeowner called an off-duty Benton County Sheriff's deputy to report a possible alligator sighting Thursday night. McKinzie told the Northwest Arkansas Times ( that by the time commission officials arrived the animal was gone.
He says there was some speculation that the creature was a caiman, which are related to alligators and are legal to own in Arkansas.
But on Friday, the animal was found and officials learned it was really was an alligator.
McKinzie says a resident told officials he was licensed to own an alligator. McKinzie says the man was allowed to keep the animal for the time being.
