Tonight's Pay It Forward starts out along 82nd street just west of Quaker Avenue. We set up with our Pay It Forward sign searching for this week's playmaker.
Our story takes a couple of twists and turns. A young man in a white pickup shows up first, but he changes his mind and tells us that he would like us to find someone else.
After a minute or two, Maxine Kimbrough shows up. Maxine approaches us and told us that she has been hoping and praying that she would run into us someday. She has a friend named Emma and she wants to help her out.
We proceed to a retirement complex in Central Lubbock. When we arrive, Maxine knocks on Emma's door. Emma answers the door and for the first time in Pay It Forward history, a recipient turns down the money. She told us that she would feel guilty if she took the money. Despite falling on hard times in the past, Emma feels there are other people in the world who deserve it more. Emma tells Maxine that she would love it if she could find someone else who is struggling more than she is.
Maxine has another friend named "Agnes" who lives a building or two away. Agnes has diabetes and has many medical bills to pay. Maxine knocks on her door. Agnes answers and gratefully accepts $300 from Maxine. Maxine said it felt good to help her friends out and said that she hopes Agnes can use the money for her medication.
Be looking for our Pay It Forward sign soon. You could become our next playmaker who makes a difference in someone's life.
