DJ Baxendale signs pro contract with Minnesota Twins

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas' DJ Baxendale will begin his professional career with the Minnesota Twins.

Officials announced Wednesday that Baxendale signed a contract with the Twins, who picked him in the 10th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft. He'll play for the Elizabethton Twins, Minnesota's rookie league affiliate.

Baxendale pitched in 60 games and posted an 18-9 record with 10 saves and 2.71 ERA during his three years with Arkansas.

Two of his teammates also have signed professional contracts.

Matt Reynolds signed with the New York Mets and Sam Bates signed with the Kansas City Royals.
