Jury Sentences Green to Death for Randolph Murders

MAY 24, 2004 - Posted at 12:52 a.m. CDT

POCAHONTAS, AR - A Randolph County Circuit Court jury deliberated for two hours this morning before returning to the courtoom and sentencing 49-year-old Billy Dale Green of Warm Springs to the death penalty on four counts of capital murder for his role in the 1998 slayings of the Carl Allen Elliott family of Dalton.  Green was also sentenced to life in prison on one count of kidnapping in the case.

On Friday morning, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all charges against Green.

After sentencing was handed down late this morning, Circuit Judge Harold Erwin gave Green the opportunity to address the court.  Green said he was sorry for the tragedies that befell the Elliott family, but still maintained his innocence.

Meanwhile, at his request, Green sat down with a K8 News crew shortly after sentencing was handed down this afternoon for his second jailhouse interview with KAIT, which will air tonight on K8 News at Six.
