Ash Flat moves ahead with new fire department plans

ASH FLAT, AR (KAIT) – The city of Ash Flat is finally movingahead with its new fire department.

Mayor Danny Traw said construction will begin as soon as possibleand will be finished late this fall. The new building will be built off GoodwinCove behind Sonic off Highway 62.

The city council passed an ordinance saying the $635,000 bondwill be paid back over 20 years.

Finding a location hasn't been easy for the fire department. It has looked at several properties in the past year, including a buildingowned by Terry Dillard and a lot off of Highway 63.

Costs of moving and rebuilding have also become an obstaclefor the Ash Flat Fire Department to overcome, as they have had to turn downprevious bids that were too high.

The fire department had to temporarily set up shop in abuilding designated for the city library and a pole barn.
