Some local drivers have feared that a bridge collapse like the one in Washington State this week could happen closer to home. People have been particularly fearful of the aging Black River Bridge that connects Black Rock and Portia on U.S. 63 in Lawrence County.

Authorities in central Arkansas say a 14-year-old boy has died following a hit-and-run in Pulaski County.
Dan Sligh and his wife were in their pickup truck on Interstate 5 heading to a camping trip when a bridge before them disappeared in a "big puff of dust."
The trucker was hauling drilling equipment when his load bumped against the steel framework over an Interstate 5 bridge. He looked in his rearview mirror and watched in horror as the span collapsed into the water behind him....
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Friday, Congressman Rick Crawford
will give books to the Corning and Greene County Libraries from the Library of
Congress's Surplus Books Program.
Crawford will visit the Greene County Library in
Paragould from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the Corning Public Library from 11 a.m.
to 11:30 a.m.
"I am excited the Greene County and Corning
Libraries will be able to benefit from the Library of Congress's Surplus Books
Program. My staff and I hope we can work with other libraries at home to
benefit from the program," said Crawford. "Libraries are often the
first place young people begin to learn about their world and the Surplus Books
Program will help libraries in Arkansas expand their collection."
Through the Surplus Books Program, the Library of
congress donates a variety of books to public and federal agencies, nonprofit
schools, and nonprofit organizations.
Crawford and his staff personally requested the books to be donated.
