ST. LOUIS - (STLToday.com) - Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman has successfully lobbied the team to skip a rehab assignment and prove that he can go straight from knee surgery to the major-league roster.
It just won't happen Friday.
Berkman will travel with the team tonight to Cincinnati and remain on the 15-day disabled list Friday as he proves to the team that he can regain his timing at the plate without at-bats in the minors. Berkman is coming back from May knee surgery.
Manager Mike Matheny said that it's likely Berkman will be activated during the six-game road trip that the Cardinals have to start the second half of the season.
