After 24 years of toil, SE Arkansas gets 4-lane U.S. 65

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - After 24 years of construction projects, U.S. Highway 65 that runs between Pine Bluff and Lake Village in southeast Arkansas is finally complete.

Officials are holding two dedication ceremonies on Thursday to mark the end of the $200 million project that carries the promise of helping boost the region's economy.

Completion of the project means motorists can drive the 125 miles from Little Rock to Lake Village, all on four-lane roads. Construction is under way on about 10 miles of highway between Lake Village and a new $366 million, four-lane bridge over the Mississippi River to Greenville, Miss.

Officials say the highway will be an important trade route for agricultural products from the southeast Arkansas Delta.
