JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Jonesboro Police are searching for the man who stole a woman's purse, then carjacked a man at gun point Wednesday afternoon.

According to Jonesboro Police, the suspect rode up on a bicycle and stole a woman's purse in Caraway Plaza, that's when a couple of good Samaritans tried stepping in.

"Well, I was inside Deals over here and I hear some lady screaming for help erratically, so I went outside," witness, Dave Padilla said.

"Then next think I know I see a black gentleman riding by on a bike and I see the lady screaming for help so I took off pursing the guy. I got to about Barnhills right here and the gentleman turned around and told me he had a gun," that's when Padilla said he backed off and another man tried to stop the suspect.

"The guy cornered him, and as the guy got out his car to pursue the guy, the gentleman hopped into his car and took off in it," Padilla explained.

Police said that stolen SUV, a Chevy Trailblazer, was found around 5 o'clock at the corner of Logan Avenue and Patrick Street.

"His whereabouts are unknown at this time," Detective Jason Simpkins with the Jonesboro Police Department said.

Detective Simpkins said police are looking for leads as to where the carjacking, purse snatcher may be.

"Police are collecting statements right now. The investigation is ongoing," Det. Simpkins said.

As for Dave, he says his thoughts are with the woman who had her purse stolen.

"The guy stole everything from her. Her kid's social security numbers, her bank cards, her checks. She's just real hysterical right now. I just hope she gets through it," Dave said.

Neither the victim of the purse snatching or the victim of the carjacking were injured in the incident.

If you have any information about the suspect in this incident, call CrimeStoppers at 935-STOP.
