Sex offender arrested for living near an elementary school

Baxter County, AR (KAIT) – A sex offender is behind barsafter officers discovered he lived near an elementary school.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, deputiesarrested Matthias Jones, 36, after discovering he no longer lived at hisregistered address during a routine residence verification check. When deputieslocated Jones, they discovered he lived in close proximity to Nelson-WilkesElementary School in Mountain Home.

Jones is registered as a level three sex offender.

In 1994, he was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-oldgirl.

Jones is currently in the Baxter County Detention Center inlieu of $15,000.00 bond. He has been charged with violating sex offender registration requirements, which is a felony.

He is set to appear in the Baxter County Circuit Court onAugust 9th.
