Sex offender arrested for living near an elementary school

Baxter County, AR (KAIT) – A sex offender is behind bars after officers discovered he lived near an elementary school.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested Matthias Jones, 36, after discovering he no longer lived at his registered address during a routine residence verification check. When deputies located Jones, they discovered he lived in close proximity to Nelson-Wilkes Elementary School in Mountain Home.

Jones is registered as a level three sex offender.

In 1994, he was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Jones is currently in the Baxter County Detention Center in lieu of $15,000.00 bond. He has been charged with violating sex offender registration requirements, which is a felony.

He is set to appear in the Baxter County Circuit Court on August 9th.
