Police searching for shooting suspect

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – Police need your help finding the person responsible for shooting and injuring a teen with a stray bullet.

According to the Newport Police Department, officers were dispatched to Harris Hospital. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 17-year-old female from Newport who had a gunshot wound.

The teen and witnesses told police, they were driving in the area of Remmel Avenue when they heard gunshots. They told police the shots sounded like they came from the Ashley Drive area.

Police report that the victim had her arm out the window of the vehicle, when a stray bullet struck her.

According to police, the victim's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police do not have a suspect in their custody at this time.
