Craighead Authorities Arrest Five in Meth Raids

JUNE 3, 2004 - Posted at 12:30 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - Craighead County Sheriff's deputies raided rooms at two Jonesboro hotels early this morning and arrested five people on charges related to the manufacture and sale of methamphetamine.

At approximately 2 a.m., deputies served warrants at rooms at the Scottish Inn on Parker Road, and the Park Inn on Caraway Road.  Authorities say a total of two men and three women were arrested at the locations, and a 2-year-old child was also taken into police custody before being turned over to relatives.

Sheriff Jack McCann says his officers seized approximately $15,000 worth of processed meth, as well as a loaded handgun and $1,700 in cash.  Deputies also confiscated a wide assortment of ingredients and equipment used in the manufacture of meth, plus other drug paraphernalia.

The names of the suspects have not yet been released.  A probable cause hearing for the suspects is set for tomorrow.  Meanwhile, McCann says additional arrests are expected in the case as the investigation continues.
