Sophomore offensive lineman Mike Gallaway is the 2012 recipient of the J.D. Jones Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship, selected each year by the Harding coaching staff, goes to a former walk-on who has earned a scholarship based on his performance on the field and as a teammate. The Jones family, including former Bison football players Rick, Randy and David Jones, funds the scholarship in honor of their father, J.D.
Gallaway, who lives in McRae, Ark., graduated from Marmion Academy in Aurora, Ill., in 2010. He earned 2nd Team All-Area honors as a center.
Gallaway, an accounting major, spent the 2010 season as a redshirt before earning playing time in three games for the Bisons in 2011. He made his Harding debut against Southern Arkansas and also played against Shepherd Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
"Mike has been one of those guys that refused to be overlooked," Harding head coach Ronnie Huckeba said. "He had a great off-season and is competing for time at the guard position on the offensive line. He is a tough guy that is an integral part of the special chemistry that we have on the line. He is very deserving of this honor."
