JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – People learned this weekend that
making their homes energy efficient will hardly break the bank.
The Craighead Electric Cooperative hosted an open house at
its newest energy efficient home.
The four-bedroom house is located on Craighead County Road
425 in the Valley View school district.
It was built using a variety of energy-saving features, and
the builder, Toby Bunch, says these will significantly lower the home's utility
costs.
"This house, it's 1,800 square feet basically," said Bunch,
who own Signatures Home & Development. "The heating and cooling costs are
going to be around $63 a month."
Bunch was assisted during construction by the renowned
energy expert, Doug Rye.
"Higher utilities have actually helped this a great deal,"
Rye said about an increasing interest in energy efficiency.
"People now start saying, man, and churches and everywhere
have these utilities as a big part of their budget and people making less
money," he said, "it's a bigger part of that."
