TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Police in Texarkana, Ark., are investigating the operator of the Bi-State Justice Building after an inmate at the facility was injured in May.
Inmate Ron Hayes of Texarkana alleges he was assaulted by Community Education Center staff on May 14. Records show he suffered a broken collarbone and broken nose.
CEC has operated the jail since 2001.
Police Chief Robert Harrison told the Texarkana Gazette that police didn't learn of incident until Hayes appeared in court June 7.
CEC spokesman Christopher Greeder told the newspaper that the agency will cooperate with any investigation.
A report says Hayes was handcuffed after becoming belligerent when he was removed from a visitation with his wife.
Hayes was being held on charges that include domestic battery, fleeing, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
