LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock police records show that July was the deadliest month in Little Rock in nearly two decades - since gang wars that raged in the early 1990s.
Police records show there were 10 slayings in the city last month. That's the highest number in a single month since December 1993 when there were 11 slayings and a gang war was ongoing.
Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas says there were three double homicides last month - including a pregnant woman whose fetus is counted among the victims. Thomas says all three were committed by people who knew the victims.
Thomas says the circumstances that include people knowing the victims make the deaths different from 1993 when the issues were about gangs and turf wars.
