Police Chief asks for donations for soldier care packages

SENATH, MO (KAIT) - Unfortunately not everyone overseas has someone to send them anything, much less a letter, but Senath Police Chief Omar Karnes is doing his part to make sure our women and men receive something to put a smile on their face.

Chief Karnes' son is stationed with the 445 Air National Guard in Afghanistan, and like many family and friends of soldiers stationed overseas, Chief Karnes and his family send him "care packages" which he shares with the others in his troop.

But, not all soldiers have that. Karnes want to change this by asking others to help. He says troops need the following items:

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Snacks (Jerky and non-chocolate/non-melting candy)
  • Drink mixes
  • Peanuts
  • Anything extra that might give them a little comfort

If you would like to donate items, contact the chief at (573) 738-2818 or (573) 717-6676.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with loved ones and enjoy good food, but since that is not an option for everyone, members of the Jonesboro community came together to make sure as many people as possible were fed.
