WALNUT RIDGE, AR - The Athletic Director at Walnut Ridge's Williams Baptist College is expected to make a full recovery following an accident over the weekend.

Carol Halford suffered serious injuries after losing control of an all-terrain vehicle Saturday at her parents' home in Malden, Missouri.  She was airlifted from the accident scene to a hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and then transferred by air ambulance to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Surgeons at Barnes repaired two broken vertebrae in her back during a lengthy operation on Sunday.  Despite the severe nature of the injuries, doctors report that the operation was successful and that Halford should experience no paralysis.

In addition to the back injury, Halford suffered fractured ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken collar bone.  She is expected to remain hospitalized at St. Louis for one more week, before beginning rehabilitation.

"God was watching out for Carol this weekend," said WBC president Jerol Swaim.  "The outcome could have been far worse, and we are very thankful for the good prognosis.  We are anxious to get our friend and co-worker back with us as soon as she is able."
