NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital receives award

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro is receiving an award for the fourth year in a row.

A representative from HealthGrades arrived at NEA Baptist on Thursday to present the administration with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 2012.

According to the Director of Client Development for Health Grades, Ben Mahfood, the award is based on a collection of data gathered from patient surveys.

"The award is based on the HCAHPS, or Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems," Mahfood said. "This is data reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. It's based on a series of about 27 questions that are presented to patients after their stay. So, those questions are on general satisfaction. Things like the noise level, cleanliness, communication and experience with caregivers."

Health grades is a nationally recognized organization that gives our healthcare consumers information about the products and hospitals and providers.

CEO and administrator of NEA Baptist, Brad Parsons, says

"We are just thrilled to accept this award on behalf of all the colleagues at NEA Baptist," Parsons said. "The physicians, the nurses and the support staff that take exceptional care of our patients everyday. We're very proud."

"This is a very significant award.," Mahfood said. "As a matter of fact, 2012 marks the fourth consecutive year they've been named as a recipient in this award. It's the third consecutive year they've been ranked in the top five percent of all hospitals in the country to receive this."

Mahfood says this is important information for current and future patients.

"What this signifies," Mahfood said. "As patients walk through these doors, they know that they are going to receive not only the best care but they'll be taken care of in the best possible way."

Parsons said they work hard to make a patients experience as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

"Patients don't always get the choice and aren't always excited to show up at the hospital," Parsons said. "And so, we take that as an opportunity to make a difference in patients lives and to offer a great experience. We believe that every employee in our organization has the opportunity to effect the patient experience in a positive way. And so, that's what we do. We talk about it and strive to always have an excellent patient experience."
