Mental exam for Ark. man charged in son's death

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A mental evaluation has been ordered for a southwest Arkansas man who's charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 2-year-old son.

Prosecutors have charged 21-year-old Marcus Ray Sims of Foreman in the death of Marcus Ray Sims Jr. An autopsy by the state Crime Lab found the child suffered bleeding from a punch to the kidney, bruising from "hand slaps" to his face, bruises on the head and back and fractured ribs.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that the elder Sims told police he found the child with milk running from his mouth and - when he picked up the child - milk running from his nose.
Sims is jailed on $100,000 bail.
