Former Harding kicker Eddy Carmona's National Football League debut Monday night for the Oakland Raiders did not go exactly as planned.
Carmona, who earned 1st Team All-Great American Conference honors for the Bisons last season, had a 66-yard kickoff to open the second half but missed a potential game-tying 36-yard field goal with 6:44 remaining in the game as the Raiders lost 3-0 to the Dallas Cowboys in both teams' preseason opener in Oakland, Calif.
Raiders starting kicker Sebastian Janikowski also missed a 47-yard field goal in the first half.
Oakland's next game is Friday, Aug. 17 against the Arizona Cardinals in Phoenix.
Harding also has three former players on rosters in the Canadian Football League. Eddie Russ, who played at Harding in 2010 and 2011, is in his second season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He has played in five games this season and has 11 tackles and one interception.
Kurt Adams and Rene Stephan are both members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Adams played the first four games as a wide receiver for the Blue Bombers and has spent the last few weeks on the practice squad. Stephan was injured in the Blue Bombers first game and remains on the injury list.
