Sharp Co. Deputies find alleged shooter asleep in recliner

EVENING SHADE, AR (KAIT) – Police say an Evening Shade man is in serious condition after he was shot in the abdomen.

According to Sharp County Sheriff's Deputies, Josh Lindhurst, 34, of Sulphur Rock, was found with a gunshot wound to his stomach at the 100 block of Jack School House Road after police responded to an emergency call requesting an ambulance. Investigators have arrested 27-year-old Caleb Cook, of Evening Shade, in connection to the shooting.

While on the way to the scene, officers also talked to witnesses who said Cook shot Lindhurst with a .410 gauge shotgun and was still inside the home where Lindhurst was shot.

Officers said when they went inside, they found Cook asleep in a recliner. He was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives.

Police said Cook told them he and the victim had been drinking and got into several disagreements before Cook ask Lindhurst to leave. Police said Cook also told them he went into his home, retrieved the gun, and shot at Lindhurst after her refused to leave the second time. Police finished by saying Cook remembered shooting at Lindhurst three times and hitting him with the second shot.

Lindhurst was taken to the White River Medical Center in Batesville where he is listed in serious condition after undergoing several surgeries.

Charges have been filed with the prosecutor's office but are still pending.
