JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) – Arkansas State baseball pitcher Daniel Wright has been named a top performer by Perfectgame.org after his performance in the New England Collegiate Baseball League over the summer.
Wright was one of 20 players to receive the honor after putting together an impressive performance in the summer league. In 45 2/3 innings he had an ERA of 3.92, struck out 42 batters and issued just 11 walks.
"We are extremely proud of Daniel and his accomplishments this summer," ASU head baseball coach Tommy Raffo said. "He has worked hard to keep improving and he should be a big factor for us in 2013."
Wright's team, the Newport Gulls, finished with a 31-10 regular season record and advanced to the NECBL Playoffs where the Gulls went 6-1 including a sweep over the Danbury Westerners in the NECBL Championship series.
Wright went 2-0 in the playoffs with a 1.69 ERA, 16 strikeouts, four walks and just eight hits in 16 innings of work. He was also selected to start in the NECBL All-Star Game where he pitched one inning and struck out one batter.
This was Wright's second season in Newport and his first as a starter after being used primarily in relief during the 2011 summer season.
