LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Mike Huckabee today recommended three northeast Arkansas-based projects for funding to the Delta Regional Authority.  Huckabee's recommendations marked the third major step in the DRA grant process for 2004.

The city of Marion could get $150,000 for infrastructure improvements in the area where Hino Motors of Japan will build a plant to manufacture parts for Toyota Motor Corporation.  Hino announced plans to build the facility earlier this spring.

Newport is possibly in line for $157,450 to help construct a rail spur and access road to the Jackson County Industrial Complex.  The improvements are expected to help increase the production capacity for Arkansas Steel Associates, Southwest Steel Processing and other companies in the complex.

Meanwhile in Forrest City, the East Arkansas Enterprise Community has been recommended for $75,000 to purchase equipment for the EAEC's Rural Business Development Center, which is designed to foster the growth of small business in the Delta.

The full DRA board will make the final determinations later this year on which projects to fund in each state.  Governors' recommendations traditionally are approved by the board.
