FORREST CITY, AR (KAIT) - A traffic stop ends with two men arrested for several drug charges.
According to the Forrest City Police Department, their Street Crimes Unit stopped a vehicle traveling on South Washington Street Tuesday. During that stop, police say they smelled a strong odor of an illegal substance coming from inside the vehicle.
Police say that's when passenger Aaron Hendrix, 27, of Forrest City tried to flee from police, but police arrested and took him into custody.
Police also took the driver Stefan Phillips, 25, of Forrest City into custody after discovering Phillips did not have a valid driver's license.
According to the police report, officers found a plastic bag containing a large amount of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2,137.000, a set of digital scales and $254.00 in cash in the vehicle.
Police say Hendrix initially said his name was Antonio Lee, but was later identified as Aaron Hendrix by his fingerprints. Police also learned that Hendrix had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.
Both Hendrix and Phillips were charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of schedule III narcotics with purpose to deliver and possession of a controlled substance near a drug free zone.
Hendrix was also charged with obstructing governmental operations.
Both men were taken to the St. Francis County jail, pending arraignment.
